Monster fish caught in Taranaki waters April 1, 2016

Local Fisherman Barry Cuda managed to catch this monster fish yesterday. Cuda had set out to catch a marlin, but it turns out the marlin he hooked became the bait. After striking a marlin and battling with it for about an hour “this big fish came and swallowed it whole. Scariest thing I’ve ever seen!” Cuda said. Cuda managed to tow the fish into port Taranaki where a crane was used to winch it onto a truck and then transported up here to Egmont Seafoods to be processed. Some people have speculated that the giant fish may actually be a Hapuka – possibly cross bred with a whale.
